How To Save The Battery Life Of Your Samsung Galaxy S 2 Skyrocket

If you're reading this article, then you must own a Samsung Galaxy S 2 Skyrocket and you're less than thrilled with the life of your battery.

This powerful little smartphone is capable of performing so many tasks, that we forget that it's not plugged into a wall socket like our PC's and laptops, so we're shocked how fast the battery life is sucked right out of it.

Short of purchasing an extra battery, or a power bank extension kit, there are a couple of configurations you can implement that will significantly extend the life of your battery.

Please note: If you are a gamer, or watch movies and videos on your phone on a regular basis, these configurations will still help, but these activities are massive battery killers.

Here are a few helpful tips on how to save the life of your Samsung Galaxy S 2 Skyrocket battery:

  1. Utilize your WI-FI feature. - If you are in a location that is WI-FI enabled, make sure your phone is turned on to WI-FI. When your phone is using WI-FI, it isn't using your data plan, so it's not draining as much battery life. If you have a wireless router in your home or office, link your phone up to it and watch how much longer your battery life lasts.

  2. Close open apps. - This phone is designed to close out apps on the fly. Unlike the ever-so-popular 'iPhone', the Samsung Galaxy S 2 Skyrocket can shut down all open apps at once, using the Application Monitor widget. If you don't already have this on one of your home screens, you can easily add this widget by accessing the menu key, selecting 'add' and then 'widgets and then scroll through, finally selecting the Application Monitor widget.

  3. Turn off GPS. - It's amazing how pin-point specific the GPS application is, but keeping this app open drains your battery like nobody's business. Only use the GPS when the GPS is actually needed. There's no need to keep this app running when your phone is sitting on your coffee table.

  4. Download the Battery Widget. - This widget won't help save battery life, but it will keep you informed of your battery life level. The Android battery indicator does not include the percentage of battery remaining. This app shows your batter charge level on screen and you can touch the icon to open up the battery dashboard to see a breakdown of battery usage phone-wide. You can add this widget to any one of your home screens by opening up your menu, select 'add' - 'widgets' and then scroll across until you get to the battery widget. Then, you simply drop it on to the screen you want it to appear on.

  5. Adjust your screen settings. - If you open up 'settings' and select 'Power Saving Mode', you can adjust your screen time-out setting and your screen brightness setting. These two settings are important to your phone battery, because both of these settings are used each and every time you're using your phone. If you don't need your phone's brightness to blast open your eyes, then keep the brightness setting as low as possible. And there's no need for your phone's screen to stay open longer than 15-30 seconds after you lay your phone down, so keeping it open for longer than a minute is surely to reduce the battery life.

  6. Monitor Battery Usage. - Knowing what is using up your batter is just as important as knowing what to do to save your battery's life. If you open up your 'settings', scroll down and select 'About phone', here you'll see what operations and applications are using up most of the battery juice. If you decide to download the Battery widget, you'll be able to access this area by simply selecting the battery icon and choosing 'Battery' from the selection menu.

Remember, your smartphone is essentially a mini hand held computer and the battery that accompanies it, is designed to fit within the smartphone's slim design. The more it's being used and the more applications that sit idly open, the faster the battery will drain.

Try remembering to close out all applications once you're finished using the phone, and be sure to shut the screen off immediately after use.

If these tips have given you some valuable advice, please share this article, or give it a happy rating down below. Thank you.

How To Terminate A Cell Phone Contract Without Penalties

The United States has a very healthy mobile industry, and subscribers are greatly benefited. There are a lot of mobile companies now competing for a bigger chunk of the pie. Because of the competition among these companies, each tries to offer a better plan than the other. The result is a happier subscriber.

Each phone company owns a definite percentage of the market. Each company has loyal subscribers. But in the effort to not only maintain its current subscribers but to also attract others, these companies give offers that always try to beat the current best. This is why a lot of subscribers want to switch all the time.

If these customers do decide to transfer, they will have to terminate their contract with their current phone carrier. A subscriber is not prohibited to terminate his contract with a phone company even before it expires. But normally, there is a penalty that he has to pay. This penalty is to compensate for the damage that the phone company will sustain from the former's withdrawal from the contract.

But is there a way for a subscriber to terminate his contract without paying a penalty? Yes, there is. The easiest way to transfer to another phone company without paying for an early termination fee is by not terminating the contract. Several phone companies allow subscribers to transfer their contract to someone else. This means that the contract will continue running, but under a different person's name. The new person will assume responsibility and liability with the plan from the moment the transfer is done.

A contract is the law between the contracting parties. Any changes in it without the consent of the other shall give the party who did not give his consent the right to rescind. If a subscriber wishes to have a valid reason to terminate his contract without being penalized, he may look for any provision in the contract that was changed by the phone company without getting his consent. Phone companies often make alterations in their plans. If these alterations are not part of the company's original agreement with the subscriber, then the latter can call the attention of the phone company and ask for the termination of the contract on the ground that such contract is no longer that which was originally agreed upon.

The above suggestion on how to terminate a contract without paying a penalty may not be a recognized valid way of making the termination, but this is not unlawful. Regardless of the motivation of the subscriber for looking for changes on the contract done by the company without his content, breach of contract as a breach is as valid as any other ground for early termination of contract.

This last tip, though, may not be an actual legal ground for terminating a contract without being forced to pay a penalty, but it is, nevertheless, very effective. This is complaining a lot about the company's service. Dissatisfied customers can ruin the reputation of the company. Thus, instead of keeping them, the company often let them go without penalties.

Cloud Based Services Are the Answer for Mobile Device Management

Mobile Device Management, or MDM, is considered an important aspect of mobility. It extends the traditional concepts of operational and network management to mobile devices like smartphones and tablet computers. Purchasing, network selection, policy development, and security are among the functions included under this umbrella. Many view MDM as a step in the evolution of IT operations, but not all have this perspective.

Mobile Device Management is Dead, Say Some

Some well-known mobile app developers say that MDM is dead. This seems like a rather bold statement considering that it is still viewed as an emerging field with many opportunities. App developers argue that if inherently manageable applications can be built, MDM can be integrated in these apps. While this could work, it simply represents a movement of the function to another environment, not the elimination of it.

These developers are likely making such claims for marketing purposes, which is quite a smart move. Experts say, however, that major MDM market players still have many years of success ahead of them. Mobile OS and handset vendors differentiate their products using apps. The computer has taken on a new and more compact form and it is very popular with some people. Mobile apps have many fans, but their strategy is still unrefined. Even the historical roots of local code execution are not enough to refine the strategy of mobile applications.

The Future Look of Mobile Device Management

Rather than apps that include MDM, the most likely alternative is a cloud-based service. Enterprise level apps typically require access to a vast array of data. Downloading or synchronizing this data to mobile devices presents logistical issues. Though the cost of apps can be reduced by using value-priced app distribution tools, financial concerns still exist. These are addressed by implementing an app as a cloud service, writing it once and enabling it to be run from anywhere. Many localized apps are front-end presentations of Web services anyway.

The key to the success of this approach is HTML 5. The availability of 3.5 and 4G services and Wi-Fi are also important to the strategy because they make the cloud more accessible. Personal apps can remain local while enterprise apps will live in the cloud. Cloud-based strategies have already found followers in the form of IT managers, who are implementing them within non-mobile environments.

Over the short-term, a hybrid of app and cloud-based strategies will probably be the most popular solution. There is a strong push to implement mobility within organizations, spearheaded by user demand and cost benefits resulting from productivity improvements. Discussions regarding the preferred approach will be ongoing and take place in both formal and informal settings.

As for the outcome, the cloud appears to be the best solution and MDM companies are taking advantage of it. They offer cloud-based software that makes it easy for business leaders to control mobile device usage, policies, and costs from anywhere in the world at any time. Though it seems things could not get much easier, future technology may yield new solutions.

Finding the Right Mobile Device

Smart phones and tablets are found everywhere, virtually everyone has some form of gadget in their possession at one point or another. A teacher, student, security guard, businessman, public transportation driver, everyone who lives in a modern society has this need for a mobile device. The presence of mobile devices can be explained by both the wants and needs of its users. Everyone has different reasons for using a mobile device. It is that diversity of reasons that proves just how versatile mobile devices have become. It has become a tool that can be used for nearly everything.

Children do not really need something that's big and full of features. Chances are parents give their kids phones for the sake of being able to communicate with one another. When buying a phone for a child the main consideration should be price and durability, since all people know how well children handle small fragile devices.

Smart phones and tablets are used by teenagers mostly to surf the internet or go on social networking sites such as Facebook or Twitter. Practically every teenager now has some form of mobile device that lets them go online. The best mobile phone or tablet for a teenager would be something at the midrange. Teenagers may use their gadgets a lot, but the tasks they use do not require a lot of processing power in order to run effectively. If they do not stream music or videos that much then going for something mid-range would be ideal.

For people like businessmen or other professionals on the go the best option would be a mobile device that is powerful, compact, and has a long battery life. In fact battery life can sometimes make or break a purchase. People who are always on the go do not want to have to worry about the batteries of their mobile devices. There's nothing more annoying for a professional on the go than to hear a ring, and have their mobile device die on them. Or worse, be in the middle of making a project and have their tablet run out of batteries. Long battery life means more messages and calls and less time spent having to wait for a phone to fully charge.

When trying to look for the right model, try to look around and compare different models from different manufacturers. Doing so will make it easy to find which model and manufacturer offers the most features and value for their product. Some smart phones and tablets may not have the best features, but it does not mean that they should never be considered. Some devices that have fewer features tend to outperform in other aspects, just be sure to read reviews to get a good grasp of what owning a particular device is like.

What Is the Future of Mobile Phones?

The technology of mobile phones is constantly undergoing change. No sooner than 3G became the watch word, plans were underway for 4G technology. The trend is toward faster, more versatile, smarter phones.

What can we expect from mobile phones in the next ten to fifteen years? Already the lines are blurring between smart phones and laptop computers with smart phones performing many of the functions that only a few years ago were the realm of the laptop. There are many promising developments in size, speed and capability.

Mobile phones can be expected to become smaller and more lightweight with the development of smaller and more powerful chips. Another future development may make the silicone chip obsolete as a power source. Science may soon produce organic substances like viruses that can power the tiny computer in a cell phone.

The keyboard has been constantly miniaturized but may become a relic of the past. Several years ago a technology was developed that involved a glove with micro- sensors for each letter of the alphabet. By touching a section of the electronic glove, each letter of the alphabet could be activated. The letters would then appear on the screen.

Another futuristic idea is to use optical scanning to choose letters and common words to spell out a message eliminating the need for a keyboard. Yet another idea involves using holograms not only to display spoken messages but to project an image of yourself to the person you are talking to.

Voice recognition technology may make much of the hardware we associate with mobile phones redundant. Built in translation technology can mean that you can pick up a phone and speak in your own language and it will automatically be translated into the language of the person you are speaking to. This could considerably shrink our world as we know it and perhaps bring about better understanding among people.

Governments may use mobile phones to monitor and track individuals by communicating with their mobile phones. On the positive side, this could mean the end of kidnappings and abductions as anyone's trail could easily be followed. On the other hand, some people would worry about the loss of individual freedom and privacy.

The true future of mobile phones is that they will not exist at all. Communications as we know it will be replaced by a world of technology that we can only now imagine.

Prepaid Mobile Broadband in Australia

I have been following the mobile broadband trends in Australia for many years now and mobile broadband continues to have the fastest growing number of connections.

Statistics

Mobile wireless internet connections grew by 14.7% since June 2011 and continue to be the most popular form of internet technology in Australia.

As at December 2011 (latest statistics published) Australia had over 5.4 million mobile wireless connections. DSL connections sat at 4.5 million connections.

Popularity

So why is mobile broadband so popular? There are several reasons. Firstly it is the preferred internet connection for anyone renting a home in Australia and this includes many students who are living away from home or require an internet connection when they are at school.

With the increasing growth of tablets like the iPad, more than 50% of these devices are 3G enabled which also require a wireless connection.

3G and 4G mobile broadband is also very popular in the workplace. If you are likely to be traveling or regularly use a laptop away from your desk, chances are that you also carry a USB modem with you.

Price

What has also made mobile broadband popular but also accessible is price. Long gone are the $250 USB modem prices, today you can pick up a USB modem from Telstra (regarded as the most expensive provider) for just $24.50. Prices of $19 with Vodafone are not uncommon either.

Added to this is the significant fall in data costs. Mobile broadband connections downloaded over 23,000 terabytes of data for the 6 months till December 2011 (growth of over 26%). 1GB of data today costs around $10. Four years ago it was ten times this amount. Furthermore, many prepaid mobile plans on offer have plans that offer 30GB of data. The fact that these types of plans even exist, show our appetite for mobile data.

Getting Started

The best place to begin when looking at you prepaid broadband options is coverage. If you live in the central business district plus a radius of 25KMs then all providers are fine. Venture out beyond this and your options are really Optus and Telstra. If you live in rural Australia, I would only go with Telstra.

All providers give you coverage maps via their website, however to test it yourself you can buy a $2 sim card and pop it into your phone. Then using the available credit test the internet on your phone. This will give you the best indication of speed.

Once you are satisfied, buy yourself a prepaid starter kit, with sim and data. You will need to install some software on your computer or laptop which is provided via the USB modem. The rest of the activation process is pretty straight forward.

Integrating Mobile Management As Part of Business Disaster Recovery

A disaster recovery plan is an important component of a business operations manual and many companies are adding a new chapter regarding mobile management. No one hopes for a disaster, but the situation can be difficult to prevent. With hurricane season here, businesses are scrambling to update their disaster recovery and business continuity plans. Is including a mobile management program within these plans a smart move or should a separate solution be used to address each issue?

AT&T Study Reveals Importance of Mobile Management

AT&T recently conducted its annual business continuity survey, polling 504 IT executives throughout the country. Sixty-seven percent of the respondents indicated the inclusion of wireless network capabilities in business continuity plans. Thirty-eight percent are investing in cloud computing for various reasons including cost savings, performance, and security. Six out of every ten respondents are making a mobile security service investment, most listing a potential security breach as a pressing concern.

The increased use of mobile devices and their potential threats concerns 87 percent of respondents. Social networking is an even stronger concern than security-based threats. Clients are looking for mobile security solutions that can be controlled from one platform. They are also taking a proactive approach, with two-thirds taking measures during government alerts or testing their plans within the past year to ensure smooth operation in the event of a disaster.

In addition to securing mobile devices, IT executives are faced with managing these. This task can be difficult enough to do on a daily basis and nearly impossible after disaster strikes. Using a cloud-based service allows them to continue monitoring device use remotely if the office is affected by a disaster. Nearly half of them are using cloud-based disaster recovery services and many are now looking to the cloud for ongoing device management.

Mobile Management Complicated by All-Encompassing Solutions

Making this approach more complicated is the fact that many solutions providers attempt to be all things to all business clients. Broad programs covering cloud security, disaster recovery, business continuity, and even management of mobile devices. This results in a solution that may be enough to comply with relevant regulations but is lacking in terms of effective management of mobile devices and even worse off when it comes to preventing a basic security attack.

With natural and man-made threats facing them on a daily basis, IT managers need to take a different approach. They should look for separate solutions that feature comprehensive metrics and are customized for each desired purpose. For example, a separate solution for management of mobile devices and disaster recovery is recommended. Each should feature a program designed to measure its effectiveness. For example, device management programs should include cost savings analysis reports.

Organizations must determine which threats they are most vulnerable to, be these financial or security-related. By selecting a customized solution for each issue, they break a complex environment down into manageable components. If they regularly measure the effectiveness of the programs, they will always know how well they are addressing their exposures.

Why Are Smartphones Called "Smart"?

Smartphones are called smartphones for a very obvious reason. These mobile phones are notches higher when it comes to its advanced ability to compute as well as to communicate. The word "smart" is the perfect adjective to name this mobile phone invention since its platform is more high-tech and can definitely "outsmart" a regular feature phone in terms of speed, features, and connectivity. Smartphones are jam packed with functions that be used for both assistive and entertainment purposes.

One of the most popular integrations made to smartphones are the personal digital assistant. Shortly called as PDA or PA, it is an intelligent voice-enabled system that takes down tasks, schedule appointments and meetings and virtually anything that you need to do and reminds them one by one on a specified time.

Aside from the PDA, another great feature of the smartphone is its high-resolution camera. Before, people are simply content with having a VGA camera that can capture mediocre-quality images. These were acceptable during that time since people knew that mobile phones are simply for communicative purposes and a camera is simply a feature and nothing more. Now, people have become very demanding in terms of the quality of still and video camera. In fact, most smartphones now even have LED flash so that the camera can be used even during the night.

Another great feature of smartphones is fast internet connection. A smartphone without a fast web browsing ability is futile since it is pretty much the reason why developers have gone out of their way to improve the hardware and the software of smartphones. Smartphones can access data via high-speed WiFi connection or via 3G network where loading a page will take only a second. It also ran by an advanced operating system to make sure that it will be working just like a miniature personal computer. Also, it can be loaded with lots of applications and games depending on the smartphones' brand and software stack or operating system which is supported by a middleware and a store where all applications are accessed.

A smartphone is an amazing technological breakthrough which has created a craze these days to many people, professional or not. Sure, it is a bit pricey for some people, but can you just imagine the technology that is housed in each smartphone? The phone itself may cause a dime, but the comfort, functionality and convenience that it brings is simply priceless. It is basically not a simple feature phone anymore but a device that holds the power of a mobile phone, a personal computer, a gaming console, an automated scheduler, a virtual personal assistant, a high-resolution camera and a high-definition video camera all in one pocket-size device. If that isn't amazing then I don't know what is!

Taking Care Of Your Cell Phone

These days, the use of mobile phones is so common. It is hard to find someone who doesn't know how to use one. The use of these phones has increased over the years. Many of the third world countries have started appreciating the use of phones for communication. The phones have even become like small computers where people can now store information and even create files. It is almost becoming a necessity to own a cell phone at this day and age. With the advancements that are always taking place in technology, more and better mobile phones are being produced to provide a wide variety of functions.

However, there are many people who misuse such phones. You will find quite a number of people investing their hard-earned money to buy a sleek-looking phone. It is only a few months down the line that they begin experiencing problems with the phone, especially with its battery life. You may find that the manual of the phone states that the battery life should be 2 days before recharging yet after using it for a few months, you have to charge it every night as you go to sleep. It is either you didn't read the instructions for charging or the phone is a counterfeit.

It is for this reason that when you buy a cell phone, take time to read the manual. There is a reason why the manufacture of the phone put the manual on top of the handset when you open the box containing the phone. The manual is usually strategically placed so that people can read it to know how to operate the mobile phone. However, as human beings, we get excited when we get a new phone and we want to start using it even before going through the manual. We also depend on what people have said about the phone and how it has worked for them. If you took time and read the manual, you would discover that your phone could do more things than you can imagine.

Thus, taking care of you phone requires you to read the manual. It is in the manual that you will find what you should do and what you shouldn't do when using the phone. The information provided there is to protect the user of the phone from injury and also to protect the phone from damage. Reading the manual of your mobile phone will help you take care of it.

Facebook Introduces Pages Manager App

Just when you thought buying an iPad was the only resort to managing Facebook pages on the go, Facebook introduces a new management app: The Pages Manager app. This application answers the prayers of page administrators everywhere, as the app makes it easier for admins to effectively manage their Facebook pages from their mobile phone. The app, which is currently only available for the iPhone, is installed separately, and is independent of the Facebook mobile app - which can help you avoid mixing "business with pleasure".

Though Pages Manager has a similar look and feel to the regular Facebook iPhone app, it is more focused on updating and managing pages. Similar to the Facebook app, users can choose from the list of pages they manage and begin posting from it. However, unlike the Facebook app, the main menu of Pages Manager allows users to view their lists of pages, view summaries of their pages' insights, visit the help center, see the list of page admins, and check out the privacy and legal notices.

The Pages Manager app displays the wall of each page, and shows users how many people each post has reached and how many people are talking about it. It also makes it easy for users to like, comment, and interact with content they've posted.

The new app also makes it easier for pages to share, and add text to, photos. Furthermore, the apps improved functionality allows users to select the filter at the top-right-hand corner, and toggle between everyone's posts, only the page's posts, and hidden posts.

When users click on metrics highlighted by grey bars, they are able to see more detailed overviews of their posts in terms of reach, engaged users, and people talking about this. Android Apps for Mobile Devices

Android as an operating system for mobile devices was introduced in late 2008 and soon after its introduction, it gained widespread acceptance in the tech and developers community.

The process of development of Android apps started accelerating at an impressive pace due to its open source nature since this opened doors for the third-party freelance developers.

Eventually, Android has become the most popular operating system for the mobile devices and at present and its market share is second only after iOS.

At present, there are more than 500,000 apps in the Android market and new applications are being developed at an impressive rate. Although Android still has a long way to go before it catches up with Apple app store, still the rate of application development in Android has surpassed that of app development in iOS.

Other than Google's own developers, Android apps are also being developed by third-party developers since Android is an open source operating system and this gives it a clear edge over iOS.

Android market is stocked with applications covering all fields of life from education and science apps to medical and traveling apps. Some of the most important educational applications in Android market include NASA app, U.S Presidents, Kids Numbers and Math Lite, Kid TV, Kids Shape Puzzle etc.

These applications focus on providing education to kids through fun and friendly channels. In the category of Business & finance, we have such helpful apps as Business Travel, Card Scanner, Commercial Real Estate, Expenses, Inventory and Payment Processing.

These applications are perfect companions during business meetings and trips and help to manage the payments and transactions efficiently.

For music lovers, Android market once again offers a variety of apps to take care of their music taste. Pandora Internet Radio is a very famous app which is also present in Apple app store. This app was developed by third-party developers and provides you an easy access to a variety of online music channels.

Other than that, we have several other music apps such as Audiogalaxy Music, Amazon MP3, Winamp, PowerAMP Music Player, Slacker Radio and several others. Any app store is incomplete without scores of exciting and thrilling games and on this front once again, Android has a lot to offer to its users.

The games developed for Android have increased to an impressive number in a very limited time due to the interest of third-party developers. Some of the most popular games that have been developed for Android so far include Robo Defense, Live Holdem Poker Pro, Fruit Ninja, Doodle Jump, Sudoku Free, iRunner, Angry Birds, Abduction! 2, Star Legends and many more. These games are categorized under the appropriate categories so that users are able to choose them according to their taste.

The demand of Android based phones in the market is constantly increasing and with this increasing demand, need to develop more Android apps is also increasing. Android is attracting the attention of young developers through out the world because of its being open source. This popularity is constantly increasing at the moment and it is expected that within a few years, Android would take the position of iOS as the most widely used OS for mobile devices.

Windows Phone Operating System

Windows Phone is the newest operating system on the market. Windows Phone has proven that specs do not matter if the operating system is perfected for the hardware requirements. This has even eluded iPhone which sees dramatic increases in system performance with better hardware. With Windows Phone the operation is always fast fluid and smooth regardless of which hardware requirement you are using.

To clarify that statement Windows Phone was released with requirements of 1 gigahertz processor, 5 megapixel camera, 256 system RAM, DirectX9 rendering, FM radio tuner, accelerometer, and ambient light sensor, proximity sensor, assisted GPS, capacitive 4 point multi-touch screen, 800 X 480 screen resolution, and six dedicated hardware buttons consisting of back, search, start, 2 stage camera, power/sleep and volume. The built in RAM and non removable SD cards are tested to meet operational requirements. A Windows Phone is required to turn on and be fully operational within 30 seconds from the time you press the power button. My 1st generation Dell Venue Pro is up and running in 21 seconds. The 2nd generation Nokia Lumia 710 in my house is up and running in 16 seconds.

All 1st and 2nd gen Windows Phones have 1-1.4 gigahertz processors and 512 of RAM. The third generation that is starting to come out will have 256 RAM and smaller processors to accommodate the lower end cell phone market dominated by Android. The smaller RAM and processor lowers the cost of a phone but some apps will not work at this time with the lower RAM and processor hence a lower end phone VS. a higher end phone with more RAM. Now I mention 3rd generation as accommodating the lower end however Microsoft is giving some sneak peak information on June 20th, 2012 and has already shown off the new SmartGlass feature that will be incorporated into the entire Microsoft product line.

Windows Phone was the beginning of total incorporation of all your cell, computer, and gaming systems. This started with the introduction of the Windows Phone operating system and its Metro interface replacing the icon driven screens of the past. This was followed up with the last Xbox 360 update which turned the Xbox 360 into a Metro interface. This included the release of the Windows Phone Xbox Companion app that allows a user to use their Windows Phone as a remote control for their Xbox 360. This also brought the release of the Halo Waypoint app that allows your Windows Phone to track your game information and maps in real time while you play the game on your Xbox 360. Now Microsoft has announced and shown the Xbox Companion app is turning into SmartGlass. SmartGlass will incorporate your PC, Laptop, tablet, Xbox 360, and you're Windows Phone into one smooth operating system. Watching a movie on your Xbox 360, it will pick it up where you left off on your tablet. Surfing the web on your PC, it will pick up where you left on your laptop. Playing an Xbox 360 Live game, it will pick it up where you left on your Windows Phone. This is the idea. Implementation is supposed to occur around October 2012.

Current software requirements are full Microsoft Office Suite with Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Office 365, and SharePoint. Facebook integration without requiring a separate app though one is available and I do find it useful if not necessary. Xbox Live which allows you access to your game stats and Avatar as well as Xbox Live friends connection and messaging. This includes access to Xbox Live spotlight videos. The user may set up a single inbox to receive all email in one place though it may be separated by folders so it's not all mashed together. The ME tile allows you to set your personal info and profile and allows quick access to Facebook post a message, check in, set chat status, notifications, and what's new. Under the People tile you may of course access your contacts information. Contacts may be accessed by scrolling, using the search button, or touching a letter that represents the first letter on the name you want to find. Example, you want to call John click J and you go right to the beginning of the J names. These factors also work for app search. No more lost apps. I was looking for HoloPhone 3D in my apps list but couldn't remember the name of the app. I hit search and typed the number 3., HoloPhone 3D came right up.

Full Bing search integration which includes local search, as well as Bing Maps integration. A small but fun feature, pictures put in favorites give a nice picture show on the picture tile on your home screen. The live tile integration allows your home screen tiles to update to show new information as it occurs for tiles you have pinned. Examples include weather updates every 30 minutes and push email notifications. Internet Explorer 9 mobile version with HTML5 is fully integrated.
The Windows Phone Marketplace has just passed the 100,000 mark and attained this faster than iTunes or Google Play. Ben the PC Guy from Microsoft has toured the world challenging all phones to compete against Windows Phone in everyday tasks with Windows in the Smoked by Windows Phone challenge. For more info on the challenge follow this link. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsphone/en-us/cmpn/smoked-by-windows-phone.aspx

Their have been 10 upgrades to the platform mostly identified by numerical code. The named versions of the Windows Phone operating system have been called, NoDo which was a minor update fixing some bug issues. Mango which has been the major update to the platform adding 500 features and Apollo which will be a major refresh to the platform. You will also hear mention of Tango which actually refers to the lower end specification cell phones described above. For an excellent comparison between current Mango specs and lower end Tango spec in real world use here is a comparison video by Pocketnow that shows it's possible to have lower specs and still maintain performance.

http://pocketnow.com/2012/06/07/windows-phone-mango-vs-windows-phone-tango-video/

That's all I have at this time but I hope it's been an informative read.

Top 5 Android Apps of All-Time

Everyone knows that the Android Market is full of useful (and useless) apps. But sometimes the wide-range and seemingly endless list of apps can leave most wondering which ones are worth downloading. Well, there are experts here to tell you which apps you simply cannot live without. From apps to help you translate a word, to telling your friends what you're watching. Android has a boatload of great applications that will make that smartphone purchase gratifying every time you pull the phone of your pocket. These are not in any particular order because they are diverse and all quite great. Also, Facebook, Twitter, and most of Google's apps have been left out because we all know they are great

  1. GetGlue- This is a social app that allows you to check-in to whatever media you are currently consuming. You can share whether you are listening to music, watching TV or a movie, playing video games, or anything else. The cool thing about GetGlue is that instead of earning useless badges and such like a lot of other apps, you earn stickers. GetGlue will actually send you these high quality stickers for free via USPS. GetGlue has made many deals with entertainment providers and quite a few shows and movies have weekly stickers. GetGlue will even re-post your pictures of stuff covered in stickers to their Twitter and Facebook

  2. Google Translate - Google makes great products, we all know that (look at the Android phone in your hand). So, their translation tool being wonderful is no surprise. Whether you are in a foreign country and need to ask how to bail your friend out of jail right away or you just want to impress your lady friend at a French restaurant, this app is really great. The interface is easy to use and understand, while working extremely quickly. This app can be super handy and even fun, if you just want to put random words in to find out how they are spoken in other languages.

  3. Titanium Backup - For many Android users who may be rooted or need to transfer their information a lot, this app is indispensable. Titanium allows you to save not only the apps that you have downloaded, but also their background data. What this means is you will never lose all your levels on Angry Birds again, when transferring your device or flashing a new ROM.

  4. Foursquare - This app has recently seen a redesign that changes the entire dynamic of how this location-based social network operates. The new form of the app allows the company to collect and leverage their data more efficiently. What this means for the end user is better recommendation and social interaction between you and your other friends who use the app. The revamped app allows for tips left by other users to be displayed more prominently and there are more relevant suggestions for similar establishments.

  5. Instagram - The photo sharing giant that was purchased by Facebook is not new to many people. But, Instagram is relatively new to Android. Originally, this app was only made for iOS and it took a long time to make its way over to the little green robot. If you enjoy taking pictures on your phone and showing friends what you are eating, the beer you're drinking, or the random thing you saw on your way home, then this app is a must have. While the same filters tend to get old after a while, Facebook seems to be in development to continue making the app more robust.

There are thousands of apps that are wonderful and deserve mention but these are the ones that no one should be missing on their Android device. Go search around the Android Market and try to find your own list of apps that no one should live without.

How To Get A Cell Phone Contract When Blacklisted

More people today are struggling with financial problems that at any time in the last decade. Although the national economy may appear stronger than a few years ago, a large number of families and individuals are having difficulty making ends meet. If you would like to take out a new cell phone contract but have been blacklisted due to a poor credit standing, you should not despair.

Cell phones are changing rapidly. The most popular handsets a few years ago now seem redundant and archaic. To have access to the latest technology and apps it is important to be able to upgrade your phone on a regular basis.

It is not that difficult to know whether due to your past handling of loans and other forms of credit you have been blacklisted. There are official checks you can make to explore your status in the eyes of creditors and lenders, though most people would already be aware if they have a black mark associated with their name. Taking out a new cell phone contract is in some way no different than obtaining a loan, your credit report would be first analyzed before approval is given.

A regular dealership is not going to be willing to offer you a contract and a new handset if they believe that you are at risk of defaulting on your payments. When you consider the cost of most new phones today, a retailer would stand to lose a lot of money should you not be able to meet your obligations on time each month. It is for this reason that people who are blacklisted find it difficult gaining approval for a cell phone contract.

The good news is that there are a few ways to get around this predicament. There are companies that specifically cater to people wanting phones and who have bad credit. As a large percentage of the population have debt related problems, and as cell phones have become an almost essential item, there are solutions that can be explored.

When blacklisted, it is now possible to obtain a cell phone contract by offering to put down a deposit. This acts as a form of a guarantee that if you default on a payment would be used to cover outstanding debts. Another option would be to sign up for a prepaid deal. Though the call, text, and data usage costs would be higher with a pre-paid arrangement, it would be impossible to get into debt.

Calling In Sick: Why Your Smartphone Is Dirtier Than a Public Toilet

Gross, isn't it? According to a recent study by Standford University, your smartphone is most likely filthier than a public toilet seat-Yet, you put your digital sidekick up to your face everyday without flinching or giving it a second thought. So, unless you sanitize your device regularly, you may be in for a rude awakening.

Several studies over the last few years have shown cellphones harbor one of the most active breeding grounds for germs that you'll come in contact with on a day-to-day basis. Forget doorknobs, grocery baskets and the bottom on your shoes - Public enemy number one is sitting in your pocket, most likely increasing its numbers of pathogens at this very moment. One recent study* even found that "1-in-6 cellphones are contaminated with fecal matter." That's right. Poop - On your phone.

A Breeding Ground For Germs

Why? The warmth of a smartphone's interior is a germ-infested breeding ground and is a perfect environment for those pathogens as they're kept cozy in our pockets or purses. Also, when is the last time you went somewhere without your phone? If you're like most people, it's with you from the minute you get up to the moment you call it a night. Even then, it's still by your side recharging its battery. Think about that for a second. It goes with you to work, to eat...to the bathroom - Giving germs plenty of chances to hitch a ride.

Your iPhone or Droid, especially its display, is a germ magnet, collecting newcomers every time you touch something and then handle your phone, easily transferring them to your fingertips. So, every time you place your device next to your mouth you're risking adding millions of germs to your face. Add to that a study from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine in 2010 that said the average handset carries 18 times more potentially harmful germs than a flush handle on a men's public toilet. Yikes.

What to Do

Although your device can sometimes spread bacteria and contribute to you to becoming sick, you most likely have built up a decent tolerance and are safe. So before you go wrapping yourself in a protective bubble, follow these some simple suggestions to combat a dirty phone.

1) Use Wipes - Clean your smartphone daily with an antimicrobial wipe that is non-corrosive. Look for an electronics specific brand.

2) Swab It Down - If you have a keyboard or keypad, start cleaning it with a cotton swab dipped in diluted rubbing alcohol. Be careful not to rub too hard and not to get any rubbing alcohol inside the phone.

3) Wash Your Hands - We may sound like your mom here, but dirty hands are the most common way that smart devices get to mingle with germs. So wash them several times throughout the day, especially after using the restroom. But remember, washing your hands will do no good if you aren't wiping down your device first.

Consider This As You Shop For A Cheap Cell Phone Plan

When you start looking for the cheapest cell phone plans on the market, you may quickly find yourself confused and frustrated. The cheapest cell phone plans are not always obvious because every plan comes with some kind of catch. To find the best cell phone plan for you and your family, you need to weigh the pros and cons of different offerings against each other and decided what will work best for your particular needs.

Plenty Of Options

There is certainly no lack of choices. T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, AT&T and others (like Boost or Cricket) are all vying for your business, and it seems like every month they are offering some kind of free this or unlimited that to get your business. The two key things you need to do to successfully to find and affordable cell phone plan that you will be happy with are the following.

What To Consider

First, make sure you define your needs separate from any mobile carrier's promotion. Don't go into this not sure what you will use or what you need and then let the promotional language tell you what you need or want. Be honest about your usage habits, define them clearly and then stick to the plans that give you what you need and not more. For example, if you don't text much, don't spend a fortune on texting quotas. But be careful if you do text or you text more than you realize. The overage fees will surprise you and they can add up quickly.

Second, always remember that there's a catch. If they give you free this or unlimited that, they will try to compensate for their own profit loss on those features by sneaking in an extra fee somewhere else. Always keep your eye out for what extra fees they use to compensate themselves for the headline promotion they offer you in their so-called good deals.

Family Options Are Often Cheaper

And last but certainly not least, consider looking at family plans if you are trying to save money on your cell phone bill, even if you don't have a family. To take advantage of these plans you will need to find friends or family willing to go in on a plan together, but by doing this you may be able to save money while maintaining a good plan. There are a lot of discounts available to groups, so for many people a family option will be the most affordable cell phone plan.

Keep in mind the people who go in on this will have to work together and share minutes. Make sure this doesn't add an extra layer of complexity or a frustration that makes the plan more trouble than it is worth. This can be a good option for couples or close adult family members who call each other often as they may be able to take advantage of free mobile to mobile calls.
